
A subsequent
principle was patented in 1819: the method of percolation "pumped
out". The apparatus consists of two distinct parts: the water, placed in a
lower chamber, is driven by the steam along a tube, poured over the ground
coffee and then percolated by gravity as in filter coffee machines.
